Happy Birthday, John!
Today is John's 24th birthday. He is so old. It was another beautifully sunny day. We drove up to Quail Hollow this morning for a bit of mountain biking. Although the trail seemed to kick our butts today, it was still fun. On our way to the trail John spotted an interesting-looking squirrel. We actually turned the car around to go look at it. It was black on top with a white nose, white tail, and white legs!!! WOW! We'd never seen anything like it! Maybe it was part squirrel, part bunny, part skunk?? Then on the way home, I had to swerve around a turtle in the road. We pulled over, rescued it from the road and delivered it to the pond. SAVE THE TURTLES!
Last night we had a wonderful birthday dinner. We ate at a restaurant in downtown Canton called "Iris." The food was incredible. Next door to the restaurant there is an art gallery called "Second April." We toured it for a bit...it's a great little place. The evening ended with a bit of D.Q. and a viewing of the movie "Juno." Sunny D, anyone?
Oh, and I got a raise! WOO HOO! This confirms that I'll be staying at this job for another year!

Last Weekend = Much Fun
Leah and I had a great weekend last week...let's recap:
Friday
We went to check out a local restaurant called Main Street Grille in North Canton. It was a cool little spot that had good food at a slightly higher price than we would like but it was fun nonetheless. Then we went and got some sweet ice cream. Once again we were completely predictable because Leah had an Oreo blizzard and I had an Oreo malt...sweet. Then we went back home and watched Into The Wild. I had read the book and enjoyed it and we were both blown away with the film. Wow. Then we went to bed.
Saturday
We slept in on Saturday which was totally awesome. Then we went outside to watch the Jack Hazen Open track event. It was a lot of fun and we got a nice tans (sun burns) while we were at it. After the track meet we played some disk golf with Josh (one of the RDs). It was Leah's first time and we were both terrible. Still, much fun. The best part of disk golf was that we found two disks in the pond. They were both by the edge and after some sweet teamwork we got them out. So now we own three disks (one a fished out earlier) and have paid for zero of them. Awesome. After disk golf our friend Robbie came over for some pizza and we watched the NCAA Final Four games. Bueno.

Oops, we slept in. Missed church. Terrible. Anyway, it was a super-nice day so we decided to hit up McKinley Park for some GEOCACHING!!!!! So much fun. We found four caches, including our first multi-stage cache. We Rock. We also brought along a frisbee. It is always fun throwing the "bee." Then we decided to go get some ice cream. Yes, twice in one weekend. After ice cream we were going to go to the driving range to hit some balls but it was too crowded. Instead we came back and chilled. Later in the evening we played some Settlers with Brian and Sarah Jobson. Awesome, awesome, awesome.
Well there it is...I don't know if you can get a better weekend than that. We felt very, very blessed. It was a great.
P.S. We had a Heritage Hall March Madness bracket challenge this year. About 55 guys filled out their brackets, picking who they thought would win the whole she-bang. Well guess who won? Yep, Leah, the only women in the poll. Not only did she win but she kicked butt. She is the bomb. I love her. I am a proud husband.

Sunny Sun
It was a beautiful spring day today. Unfortunately, I spent most of it at work in a dingy basement, but just knowing that it was sunny heightened my mood. I followed my work day with a run, which was wonderful because I wore shorts! First time this season...
My sister Jessica was here for about 5 days this past week. It was her spring break, and the crazy girl decided to spend it in Canton, OH. It was so fun to have her here. I miss her way too much. We had a couple nice days, so we were able to get to a local state park for some hiking and geocaching. Jess is the master baker...she taught me a thing or two in the kitchen while we baked Peanut Butter Jumbo cookies and chocolate croissants. Mmmm. We also called Aaron, who is in Uganda...it was fun to have all the siblings "together." Thanks so much for coming to visit, Jess! We love you!
Well, that's all for now. I'm off to do some crocheting! Have a blessed week.

Bounding Baldauffs
Today, March 24th, 2008, marks the day that we found our first GEOCACHE together! Thanks Mom and Dad for the use of your GPS...you've allowed us to become complete geocaching nerds. It was an easy find in the park across the street. We enjoyed the walk, although the sun is quite deceiving! It's still only in the 30's...
We had a great Easter weekend with the Baldauffs and the Vogels in Pittsburgh. Our new favorite game, Settler's of Catan, was played in plenty! We attended church with Mom and Dad on Sunday morning, followed by a relaxing afternoon and a delicious meal at Nun and Uncle Mark's.
Today we received wonderful news about John's dad. The results of his CT scan showed that the chemotherapy is doing its job and has rid him of the cancer! He still has the battle of finishing out the next three treatments of chemo...the nausea and constant tiredness has been quite draining. But, we are extremely thankful for the healing that has taken place!!
Well, we're off to hang out with some friends...yep, we do have a few of those. Have a great week!

Saint Patrick's Feast Day
Happy St. Patty's Day. While today marks the feast day of St. Patrick it also marks the three year dating anniversary of Leah and I. At first we decided to take a week vacation to Paris or Belize but instead decided to stick around Canton for a small celebration. This celebration included a fancy hot dog dinner, a trip to the dollar theater (saw Atonement, very good), and Guinness & Scrabble. Once again, Leah dominated in Scrabble but the Guinness helped it go down a lot smoother than normal.

The Itch
It happens right about now, if not before. There's an ache and a pull and a burst of excitement. I can hardly contain it, and I sometimes wish I could just be rid of it. It quiets itself for a moment, only to reach back into my mind and tangle it with memories. Pain, sweat, stumbling, victory, tears, heat, chills, cheering, sadness, accomplishment. I swore I'd never do it again.
